SUMMARY:Naming Mt. Thoreau @Moe's Books
DESCRIPTION:Naming Mt. Thoreau: A Reading from the Anthology \n\n\nA group of friends gathered in the Eastern Sierra to name a mountain\, illegally and unofficially\, after Henry David Thoreau. This word and image collection continues a conversation that began long before\, one that runs from Emerson to Thoreau to Muir\, right on through to Snyder\, about what happens on mountains and the power of a group over the individual. \nReaders include: \nGary Snyder is a poet\, an environmental advocate and activist\, and recipient of many literary prizes\, including the Pulitzer (for Turtle Island) and the American Book Award (for Axe handles). \nLaurie Glover is the editor of Naming Mt. Thoreau and co-author of On the Road Histories: California. Her essays and poetry have appeared in journals such as ZYZZYVA and California Quarterly. \nArmando Quintero\, retired from the National Park Service\, is currently the Executive Director of the Sierra Nevada Research Institute at UC Merced. \nDavid Robertson is the author of several books on Yosemite and the West. He has held photography residencies at Joshua Tree and Yosemite National Parks in California and at Wendover\, Nevada\, and exhibited his photographs across both states. \nKim Stanley Robinson is a Hugo and Nebula Award winning science fiction writer and avid Sierra backpacker. His books include the acclaimed Mars trilogy and more recently\, Aurora and New York 2140. \nCarter Scholz is an astronomer\, science fiction writer\, and jazz pianist. \nMichael Blumlein is an M.D. and science fiction writer. He has been teaching medicine and serving at free clinics across San Francisco since the 1960’s\n \n\nSunday\, 21 January 2018 from 19:00-20:00 PST \nMoe’s Books\n2476 Telegraph Ave\, Berkeley\, California 94704 \nEvent page
